Annual Summer Show - 8th August 2015.
A team of volunteers started things rolling on Friday morning with the assembly of the marquee on the green by the entrance. With lots of bits of tubing to assemble it took a bit of doing but with lots of discussion we eventually had the two marquees set up and ready.
Saturday dawned calm and sunny. Kay Power and her team of helpers organised the tables and made ready for registration of entrants. There were a steady stream of entrants and exhibits soon started filling up the tables so that it was necessary to rearrange the spaces several times. Top numbers for entries were French and Runner beans, though there were quite a few entries for tomatoes and onions. In all there were 38 entrants, most of whom entered multiple exhibits.
As the time for exhibits being set up approached, there were several that looked as though they would miss the deadline. With minutes to go a bunch of Chrysanthemums were moved onto the floor to enable others to be set out. Needless to say, when the marquee was cleared for the judging, they had miraculously been arranged in a vase and went on to be top prize winners!
The judge, XXXX, duly arrived with his wife and they went round the displays carefully checking each sample. Everyone waited patiently outside, many sharing the crack over a cuppa and some cake ably served up at the cafe by XXXXX. The judge departed with his wife carrying her bouquet and patience was further tested as Kay and her helper went round recording the prizewinners ready for the presentation. Recording finished everyone dived into the marquee to see if they had won anything. There were lots of smiles as winners identified their exhibits.
The presentation by Hugh Merrett, our Life President, followed, after the award of the Community Green Flag was announced and the flag unfurled and displayed on the marquee.
