Getting a little extra from your crops

Sometimes you can get a little extra from your crops. For instance:-

Broad beans.
When the flowers are beginning to fade at the bottom and the beans are starting to form is a good time to pick out the growing tip to remove the bit that attracts the blackfly.
Why not cook these as tasty greens. It is something a little different!

Garlic
When garlic runs to seed and puts up a flower head (called a 'scape') snap it off just above the leaves.
Don't throw it away. Take it home and chop it up and add to your salad.
You can also do this with green garlic, young garlic lifted early. It is said to have a fresh mild garlic taste.
Does anyone know if it works for onions?

If you have tried it and have a suggestion, on this or any other crop, why not pass it on through the Forum page, sign in and tell us all!
