Not sure which type of potato to grow?
Check our quick and easy guide

Seed potatoes Small tubers that are certified to be virus free. Always use seed potatoes when growing your own.

Early potatoes Can be harvested nine to 12 weeks after planting, when the flowers open. ‘First earlies’ should be planted approx. 8-10cm deep, 30cm apart, with around 45cm between rows. ‘Second earlies’ need approx. 65cm between the rows.

Main crop potatoes Take at least 14 weeks to mature from planting and are traditionally planted around 38cm apart with 75cm between rows. Let the foliage die back naturally and harvest two to three weeks later.

Salad potatoes Smaller potato varieties with a smooth, waxy skin; usually harvested mid to late summer.
