Manure Heap reorganisation
On Sunday we took the opportunity of having a tractor digger on site to reorganise the manure heaps somewhat.
There are two main changes:-
1. The heap just inside the gate has been moved into the first (unused) plot alongside and replaced with the heap of woodchip for covering paths etc.
Access to the manure heap is somewhat restricted just at the moment but will be improved as soon as possible.
2. The old heap on the far track between the middle and far track has been bulldozed to one end. A fence will be constructed along the trackside and fresh manure will be dumped in between the new fence and the old one.
The intention is that the best and oldest manure will still be accessible when new manure is dumped next to it.
On that note the heaped up manure collected at one end is pretty good stuff (compared to the new) and is available to collect now. It has been sprayed with 'Roundup' so the weeds should be dead, though I would pull out the inevitable bindweed roots as you collect it - but please put them somewhere they wont re-root if still alive - and definitely not back on the heap!
It is also intended to improve the fencing round the heap on the corner beyond the shop, though the restricted space makes major changes impossible.
The heap at the far end of the middle track has also been re-stacked. We may be able to cover this if a large tarpaulin becomes available, thereby improving the quality as it rots down. Better (older) stuff is available if you dig in at the bottom but please do not tunnel in so far you get buried by any avalanche from above!
