An empty compost bin at last!

26/10/2015

This afternoon I finally managed to empty my mature compost bin. I've spread some of the rich brown compost as a mulch on my asparagus bed. The rest I spread over the patch I plan to sow peas and broad beans this autumn with a bit on my two rhubarb crowns.
In clearing the ground for the peas and beans I uprooted my Butternut Squash plants so all the nearly ripe squashes had to be harvested. I took them home and hopefully ripen them in my plastic grow-house.
Unfortunately I had forgotten that with the end of Summer time dusk arrived at five o'clock so there was just time to cut some chard and pick 4 finger sized courgettes before going home.
Next time I shall have to sow the peas and beans and transfer the contents of the outer compost bins into the newly emptied central one.
