Friday 25th November - Harvesting and weeding

25/11/2022

After a morning celebrating great good news on the medical front for my wife I managed a short visit this afternoon.
I harvested a very small Savoy, a few carrots to make up the small crop lifted a day or so ago and a couple of leeks.
Then I hoed most of another bed, leaving some self down chard and raked the weeds off. No-Dig mulching makes hoeing off quite large weeds very easy as they are not rooted deeply. The weeds went straight in the compost bin.
To do this I had to moved my incinerator and decided that I also needed to move what will be my Comfrey tea tub to resite the incinerator. However the place for the Comfrey tea tub needed clearing. While extracting several huge dock roots I had to contend with a positive nest of bindweed roots but it was very satisfying pulling long lengths that tended to be just in the mulch layer. I set the tub up on the cleared space.
Finishing that I detached the butterfly netting from one side of the bottom of the first brassica tunnel and hooked it up onto the screws high on the piping framework exposing the 2 inch square netting behind it that lets the small birds in to deal with the whitefly.
I never got round to putting the incinerator in place before dusk and going home.
